Custom Outdoor Fire Hydrant Protection Cage with Precision Installation in Restricted Tiled Area
FASHION TOUCH
A custom-engineered solution to protect outdoor fire hydrants with precise fit, no surface damage, and full maintenance access within a strictly confined tiled area.
This project involved designing and installing a custom protective cage for three outdoor fire hydrants. The client required a solution that would provide effective protection while maintaining full accessibility for operation and maintenance.
Due to the nature of the equipment, the enclosure needed to be built with precise clearance: 200mm on one side and 100mm on the other. At the same time, the structure had to ensure that the hydrants remained fully functional and accessible at all times.
In addition, the client required a double-door system with a locking mechanism to allow easy inspection and servicing, without compromising security.
Challenge:
- Installation restricted to tiled surface only, with no drilling permitted in adjacent concrete area, increasing on-site complexity
- High-precision fabrication and alignment required to achieve exact dimensions within a confined footprint
- Integration of access doors without compromising structural fit
Solution:
- Implemented a two-step drilling method using a diamond hole saw followed by a hammer drill to safely anchor within the tiled area without causing damage
- Identified non-solid substrate beneath tiles and reinforced the structure with wall-mounted angle supports and an additional cross beam to ensure stability
- Conducted on-site measurement and custom cutting to ensure precise fit and full compliance with required clearances
- Installed a lockable double gate with outward opening to allow safe and convenient maintenance access
